Overview
The Michigan State University Land Use and Cover Change Research Enterprise is an interdisciplinary cross-campus agenda of research and outreach focused on the topic of land use and cover change (LUCC). LUCC is a significant agent of environmental change. It is a topic with both global and local relevance, and as a research thrust it immediately serves the needs of decision makers and citizens. As a major Land Grant University, MSU research and outreach can significantly impact both science and policy at various levels analysis and decision making. The creation of this LUCC research agenda is intended to galvanize and facilitate on-going environmental research on campus through an enterprise approach which links various collaborators with shared interests in land use analysis, information, and policy.
The MSU LUCC Program Strategy
This document outlines a plan for implementation of the agenda, based on a series of planning efforts and an all-faculty workshop. It identifies the scientific rationale, specific research themes, existing strengths, and opportunities, and the institutional approach that might be taken. This plan directly supports each of the five goals of the MSU Promise.
